High bifurcation of the median nerve:
- bifurcation of the median nerve proximal to the transverse carpal ligament
Variations of the motor branch of the median nerve
- extra-ligamentous takeoff: recurrent motor branch arises from the median nerve distal to the transverse carpal ligament on the radial side
- sub-ligamentous takeoff: motor branch arises within the carpal tunnel
- trans-ligamentous takeoff: motor branch pierces the transverse carpal ligament on its course toward the thenar musculature (Figure 3C).
- the motor branch may have a course superficial to the transverse carpal ligament
Variations of the palmar cutaneous branch of the median nerve
- pierce the transverse carpal ligament.
- course within the tunnel
Variations of the ulnar nerve
- ulnar nerve within carpal tunnel
